KAJIAN PERTUMBUHAN TANAMAN TEBU (Saccharum officinarum L.) BAGAL MATA 3 DAN BAGAL MATA 4 SERTA HASIL KEDELAI EDAMAME (Glycine max (L.) Merr.) PADA SISTEM TUMPANGSARI

Limited agricultural land availability has driven the need for land-use optimization through intercropping systems, one of which combines sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum L.) with edamame soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merr.) using the ringpit planting method. This study aimed to determine the effect of sugarcane sett-bud number (three-bud and four-bud setts) on sugarcane growth, edamame growth and yield. The research was conducted at the Practical Field of Politeknik LPP Yogyakarta from December 2025 to February 2026, using sugarcane variety PSDK 923 aged 7–13 weeks after planting (WAP), with six sample holes per row for sugarcane and ten percent of the population for edamame. Data were analyzed using an independent two-sample t-test at the 5%. Results showed that the percentage of surviving sugarcane plants did not differ significantly between treatments, whereas three-bud setts produced significantly greater plant height, stem diameter, leaf number, and internode number than four-bud setts during most observation periods. Edamame in three-bud sett plots also produced a significantly higher pod number and 100-pod weight, though with fewer branches, while fresh pod weight per plant did not differ significantly between treatments.
