Abstract

Increased oil palm production faces significant obstacles due to pest and
disease attacks, bagworn and nettle caterpillar. This pest causes severe damage to
leaves, disrupts photosynthesis, and reduces yield. This research aims to achieve
several objectives: to analyze the impact of bagworn and nettle caterpillar, attacks
on oil palm production, and to identify and analyze effective pest control methods.
The research was conducted in Afdeling III of JRU Estate PTPN IV. The research
period was in October 2024. This research was carried out using descriptive
analysis, by utilizing secondary data from the research location. Secondary data
analysis was performed using census data before and after control, then analyzed
using T-test and correlation with rainfall and production. Two main leaf-eating
caterpillar pests were identified: nettle caterpillars (Setothosea asigna) and
bagworms (Mahasena corbetti, Metisa plana). For severe intensity of nettle
caterpillar attacks, a 0,030 was obtained, indicating a significant difference between
before and after control. For severe intensity of bagworm attacks, a was obtained,
indicating a 0,023 significant difference between before and after control. Chemical
control methods (fogging for nettle caterpillars and trunk injection for bagworms)
proved effective in significantly reducing the affected area. Chemical pest control
significantly reduced the intensity of bagworn and nettle caterpillar attacks and
their impact on oil palm productivity at Julok Rayeuk Utara Estate.
